Sign out

Remove this device’s local copy and session, sign out other devices, and let pending changes sync first.

Sign out removes the account’s local data and session from this browser or app. Your encrypted files remain on your account, ready for you to sign in again on a device with your password or recovery code.

Sign out here

Open the ⋯ menu above your links and choose Sign out. In a browser, do this separately in the web app and in the browser extension if you use both: each has its own session. On a shared device, close any exported files you downloaded too; sign-out doesn’t delete copies you saved outside the app.

Unsynced changes are stored on this device until they can be sent. Signing out tries to send them first, and asks before erasing any it couldn’t send. If it asks, cancel, connect to the network, and sign out again so those changes reach your other devices. A local copy that is wiped can’t send them later.

Sign out elsewhere

Settings → Account has Sign out other devices. That ends every other session — your other browsers and apps, and the browser extension even in this browser — and keeps this one signed in. Each of them erases its local copy the next time it connects; one you no longer control, or one that stays offline, may keep it. Changing your password is different: your other devices keep their local copy and any unsynced changes, and ask you to sign in again with the new password. See sync and devices and lost password.
