Your data

Export your data

Save your library as a Bracemark backup, an HTML bookmarks file, a CSV, or a list of URLs: what each one includes, and what every export leaves out.

Where to find it

In a browser: open Settings → Data and click Export all data. Pick a format and click Export all data. The file goes to your downloads, or wherever you choose if your browser asks.

In the Android or iOS app: tap the ⋯ menu above your links, then Settings. Tap Data, then Export all data. Pick a format and tap Export all data, then choose where the file goes from the share sheet. If you close the sheet by mistake, tap Save file… to bring it back.

Export is free on every plan, including when your library is over the free plan’s limit.

Which format

FormatWhat it’s forIncludes Trash
Bracemark backupEverything — links, lists, tags, pins, files, and settings — as a .zip you can import back into BracemarkYes
HTML bookmarksWeb browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Safari), LinkWarden, and KarakeepNo
CSVRaindrop.io and spreadsheetsNo
Plain textJust the URLs, one per line, for any text editorNo

Only the Bracemark backup brings everything back when you import it. The other three are for taking your links to another app, and each carries what that kind of file has room for. A link’s note, for example, goes in the CSV but not the HTML.

If you kept a Bracemark backup and need one of the other three later, our bookmark converter makes any of them from the backup, in your browser and without signing in.

What an export leaves out

  • Locked lists, and every link inside them, in every format. A locked list’s name is left out too. The export screen tells you how many lists it is skipping; unlock them first if you want everything.
  • Trash, in every format except the Bracemark backup.

The file isn’t encrypted

Each link is encrypted on your device before it syncs. An export is a readable copy: anyone who opens the file can read every link in it. Keep it somewhere you’d trust with your password, and delete copies you no longer need.

Which copy it’s made from

An export is made from the copy of your library on the device you export from. It checks with the server first, so changes your other devices have synced are included, and so are changes on this device that haven’t synced yet. If it can’t reach the server, it says so and exports what this device has.

Very large libraries on a phone

The Android and iOS apps can’t write a Bracemark backup with more than 65,535 items in it, or one larger than 4 GB, because of the zip format they write. Past either limit the app tells you so rather than writing a backup with pieces missing. Export the backup from a browser instead, at Settings → Data, which has neither limit.

The bookmark converter has a limit of its own and can’t read a very large backup; export HTML or CSV from Settings → Data instead.
